Information in a patient’s medical record can supplement available cancer data elements according to Scott DuVall, PhD, of the VA Salt Lake City Health Care System. This enriched data can provide physicians with a more complete diagnostic picture.

“We have a tool that allows you to view the patient record but, along with that, add structure,” DuVall explained. “That can turn text or any other part of the medical record into good study information.”
